What We Believe

This is not a creed or a test of fellowship. It is a statement of general identity of the Community Christian Church of Scott City, Kansas. We have no creed except faith in Jesus as the Christ, God’s Son and man’s Savior.

We Believe:

  • There is one God, eternally existing in three distinct Persons who exist in unity: The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • In the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, atonement through His shed blood, bodily resurrection, ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His personal and visible return to earth.
  • The Holy Spirit is the divine helper, counselor and instructor. His work is to reveal Christ, convict of sin, guide, comfort, and strengthen believers. (John 16:5-15)
  • The Bible to be God’s Holy Word, without error, and the sole authority for life. (II Timothy 3:16)
  • While human beings are the special creations of God, we are all sinners and are in need of salvation. (Romans 3:23)
  • We cannot save ourselves, but salvation is a free gift from God. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
  • The only terms of salvation that we may proclaim are those expressed in the New Testament: faith, repentance, confession of faith in Jesus Christ, and baptism by immersion in water for the remission of sins and for the promised presence of the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 2:38, Romans 10:9, Matthew 16:16.)
  • In partaking of the Lord’s Supper each week. (Acts 2:42)
  • We are an independent Christian church, which answers only to the Lord and the local congregation.
  • In cooperating with other local churches in doing the work of God in the community.

About Salvation - What should I do?

Be willing to accept God's grace. Don't try to earn it. Understand that it is a gift from God.  “For it is by grace you are saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

In the gospel of John we read, “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,” John 1:12. The fundamental issue here is belief. What you must do is believe that Jesus died to pay for your sins and that He rose again, and is alive today. “But without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Hebrews 11:6

If you believe in Him, that's great! Now what you have to do is receive Him as your Lord and Savior. Here's how you do that:

1. Repent of your sins.

The New Testament word “repent” means a “change of mind”. When we repent, we turn away from sin and turn toward Jesus Christ. “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.” Acts 3:19

2. Ask Jesus to come into your life and be the director/boss.

Jesus says, “Listen! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in” Revelation 3:20

3. Confess that Jesus has first place in your life.

“Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven” Matthew 10:32, 33 (Confession is the willingness to say aloud what you believe in your heart)

4. Identify with Jesus’ death and resurrection through baptism

“Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him though baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.” Romans 6:3, 4

At Community Christian Church, we baptize by immersion, meaning your whole body goes under the water. We do this because we believe it is the method Jesus taught. We also do not practice infant baptism, because we believe that baptism is the conscious choice of the individual after they have heard, believed, and accepted the message of Christ.

Where are you in your relationship with God? Do you believe that you are a sinner in need of forgiveness? Do you believe that Jesus is God’s son, sent to pay the price for mankind’s sin debt? Do you believe he died and rose again? What have you done with Jesus?
